1756. It is abominable to fast on Ashura (10th of Moharrum). It is also abominable to fast an the day about which it is not sure as to whether it is the day of Arafaa or Eidul qurban.

1756. It is Makrooh to fast on 'Ashura (10th of Muharram). It is also Makrooh to fast on the day about which one is not sure whether it is the day of 'Arafa or Eid-ul-Azha.

1744. To fast on 'Ashura (10th of Muharram) or on the day about which one is not sure whether it is the day of 'Arafa or Eid-ul-Azha, it is Makrooh.

 TRADITION OF THE INFALLIBLES AS

It is narrated by Abdul Malik that he has asked Imam Jaffer Sadiq AS that “O Son of Prophet SW what do you say about the keeping fast on the 9^th and 10^th day of Muharram. Can a Momin keep fast in these two days or not? Imam AS replied “O Abdul Malik the day of TasuAA which is the 9^th day of Muharram is that difficult day in which Imam Hussain AS along with his companions and family was surrounded completely by the enemies. And on this day the son of Ziyad and the son of Saad were joyous due to the presence of big cavalry. And along with his companions my Oppressed Grand Father Hussain AS was crippled, heartsick and worried. All the ways out was closed unto them. The enemies were sure that no helper or citizens of Iraq can come for the help of Imam Hussain AS. After this Imam Jaffer Sadiq AS said “My father and mother be scarified unto that oppressed, outlander who was surrounded by the enemies and then Imam AS continued the day of Ashura is that day in which Imam Hussain AS was martyred and his body was lying between the bodies of his companions in blood and dust. And all around the unclothed body of the Imam AS the bodies of the martyrs were there. Thus Imam AS said that By God the day of Ashura is not a day of fasting but that day is of grieving, mourning and sadness for the momineen, the heavenly and earthly beings. For the Ahle Ziad and for the Ahle Sham the day of Ashura is the day of happiness and delight. This day is the day of distress because on this day all the layers of earth clamored, lament, turmoil and agitated on the distress of Leader of Martyrs AS. But the residents of Sham very delighted. Thus whoever fast on this day and consider this day as the day of good fortune then Allah will accompany him with Yazeed LA and the son of Ziad to the Hell”.
